Editor's Review:

350 Pages is a relatively new player on the build your own website scene and from initial appearances they seem to have taken the best bits of the competition and built them into a reasonably priced set of online web design tools. With 5 different price plans there should be something to suit everyone in terms of features. Users can check out 350 pages with the Free version and even build a basic, but functioning website. If you get on well with the 350 Pages platform you can either upgrade to the Lite Plan which simply gives you some more space and removes the ads, or you can choose a more advanced plan depending on the complexity of your desired website.

Signing up with 350 Pages is straight forward, as is building a website. In fact, we had one up and running in minutes. Select graphics, buttons, text and color schemes from 350 Pages’ extensive library or upload your own. These can then be easily dragged and dropped into the website editor and placed wherever you want them. This WYSIWYG platform means that you do not have to possess technical knowledge of HTML or CSS code in order to be able to put together a basic website. We especially appreciated simple touches such as grid lines that help you line up the components of your website; surprisingly, these are not as common as you would expect in this category. Furthermore, 350 Pages comes with a selection of auto-format templates into which desired website components can simply be dropped and then arranged automatically. This would be great for those of us with very limited computer skills. However, the majority of users will find the free-format mode easy and far more flexible.

350 Pages also offer a variety of 3rd party widgets that are simple to install to your website. Users looking to set up an online shop will especially appreciate the Google Checkout and PayPal add-ons which will allow you to process secure payments through your websites. Although 350 Pages does not appear to be specifically designed with online shops in mind, everything you will need is there. It might take a little longer to get your head around what is required but its openness actually makes it a more flexible platform than many of its competitors.

It must be noted that, although 350 Pages boasts a lot of basic content, it does not enable you to build a Flash website. Flash websites represent the latest in website design technology as they enable music and animation to be easily integrated into a website without demanding too many resources. Almost all major websites are designed with Flash these days and many easy website builders are beginning to make Flash website design accessible to the general public. However, there are a couple of drawbacks with Flash which save its absence on 350 Pages from being a total loss. Firstly, search engine optimization is more difficult with Flash websites; there are ways around this but they do entail a lot of work and technical knowledge. Secondly, Flash websites are not compatible on iPhones. This means that “iPhone versions” of all Flash websites must be made which, although possible even with Free beginners software, simply entails more work.

Being relatively new on the scene is something of a double edged sword for 350 Pages; although they are not tried and tested and have not yet managed to build themselves a reputation, they have been able to learn from the mistakes of others and build on these. We would recommend them to anyone looking for something simple, yet effective as 350 Pages make website design, management and search engine optimization easy and cheap. Musicians and artists looking for a website which will deliver a “wow” factor should probably look elsewhere for a Flash website. Likewise, those looking to spend a lot to get the best website possible will find better alternatives in this category. However, for the rest of us, 350 Pages shouldn’t let you down.
